Rainmaker Valdy
First day in August last rain was in May and the rainmaker came to
this city of Kansas in the middle of a dusty day and the rainmaker
said to the people the of Kansas what are you prepared to pay,
said the rainmaker to all the people of
Kansa I can bring you all the rain today.
It was ninety degrees in the heat
where it's shady, 100 in the hot sun.
Heat from the street Burned the feet of

Called down the lightning, by a mystical name,
then the rainmaker called on the
thunder and it suddenly began to rain.
Then the rainmaker passed his hat to
the people but the people all turned away.
Then the rainmaker's eyes and the
Kansas skies, they both became a darker grey!

Yeah, it's the first day in august, hasn't been raining since May,
when the rainmaker came into Kansas in the middle of a dusty day,
then the rainmaker smiled as he hitched up his wagon,
without a word he rode away and the people of the town heard the
sound of his laughter,
because they knew the rain had come to stay, and they were so afraid,
Well if the rain continued, surely,
they would lose all their crops and in the ensue and
flood they would lose their very farms and they were so afraid.
What can they do, they said,
we'll have to get some airplanes in here,
we'll get 5 or 6 of those big bombers and will spray the clouds.
We'll use some of those fine chemicals they have on the market now.
So up went 5 big airplanes and they dumped phosphates,

and the dumped all kinds of ates on the clouds, but nothing happened,
except that the clouds got a little
darker, and it rained a little harder.
And so, in a fit of panic, the people got together and said,
we've got to do something to stop this rain,
and a little man said, well, why don't you sing?
And the people said, well ok, we sing in church on Sundays,
I suppose it would be alright to sing here too so they got together
and said, ok, let's do it but, what should we sing,
and the young man said, well, if you want the rain to go away,
I'd suggest you sing, rain rain, go away, come again another day,
or something like that and
eventually you will just disburse the clouds.
So, they said, we'll give it a try.
But you must remember that Kansas is a very uptight little community
and so the result when all of these people got together to sing
was that no one wanted anyone else to know that it was going on.
So, it sounded kinda like, uh,
(muffled) rain rain oh won't ya go away, come again another day.
No spirit in it at all and the little man said, '
Now if you really believe in something, it's gonna work out for you,
but if you don't believe in it,
it's not gonna work out at all, so ya gotta sing it you know'!
And they all said, well ok, I suppose we can do it.
It was very quiet at first, you could hardly here it.
It was just a little: rain rain go away,
come again another day (then a few more
joined in) rain rain go away come again another day.
Repeat and get the audience involved
clapping and singing along while you stop playing.
